Amazon Whitby DON-3
Broccolini continues its growing partnership with Amazon in the multinational’s effort to expand its reach in Canada in order to offer its customers even faster and more reliable delivery services.
This project for Amazon consists in the renovation of an existing one-storey industrial building to accommodate a 390,000-sq.ft. package sorting and shipping warehouse that will become part of the Amazon Logistics (AMZL) network of facilities.
Located in Whitby, Ontario, just south of the 401, the warehouse will be completely remodeled to meet the particular needs of the tenant, including the build-out of an indoor parking facility, a sorting area, a supporting office area, and an employee break room.
The warehouse will be a cross-dock delivery station and will be Canada’s first ever Interior Parking/LO site, which is a major milestone for Broccolini and Amazon alike. The facility will receive packages via line haul trucks and the packages will be sorted and stored on mobile “baker racks”. They will then be rolled to the loading area. Vans will drive through the space and the packages will be loaded onto the delivery vans by forklifts. The project therefore required a significant amount of exterior sitework, grading and landscaping in order to facilitate the entry of vehicles into the building.
Broccolini Construction (Toronto) Inc. was awarded the project in March 2020 and Amazon is scheduled to move into the space in August 2020.
This project was a first for Broccolini in that it was fully tendered and awarded during the COVID-19 pandemic, which required great effort and exceptional communication on behalf of the entire Broccolini team, demonstrating that even in the most difficult conditions, “We Make it Happen.”
