Lafarge

Present in 76 countries, Lafarge is a world leader in construction materials. Focused on sustainable development, the company operates several research centres and laboratories in order to develop new technologies and improve the performance of their products.

Lafarge called upon Broccolini's expertise for the expansion and reengineering of its new research centre located in Pointe-Claire. The project consisted of a 6,000-sq.ft. expansion of an interior mezzanine and the renovation of the existing area of approximately 3,000 sq.ft. The turn-key project included the design of a new laboratory facility built according to current standards and to the client's standards.

Due to the restricted surface area, Broccolini's main challenge for this mandate consisted in maximizing the space and taking into account the particular requirements of a laboratory space: elaborate mechanical and electrical engineering, specific conduits for chemical products and ionized water, a complex ventilation system, etc.

The exterior consists of a combination of cement architectural panels, brick, glazing/aluminum and metal cladding. The interior finishing consists only of high-end materials: granite, carpet, ceramic, and wood. In order to benefit from natural lighting within the laboratory, several Solatube skylights® were incorporated into the building.

Broccolini realized the overall project in collaboration with the end users of the building in order to achieve a final result that would correspond with their concrete expectations. The project was initiated in the spring of 2008 and completed on August 29, 2008. The building provides Lafarge's researchers with a pleasant, custom-designed, state-of-the-art working environment.
