M&M Footwear
M&M Footwear, a major shoe importer established in Quebec, entrusted Broccolini with the construction of its new building located on the corner of Thimens Boulevard and Pomba Street in the Saint-Laurent borough of Montreal, not far from its original location on Gougeon Street. Broccolini was in charge of the design and construction of this 50,000 sq.ft. project, which houses both the warehouse (40,000 sq. ft.) and offices (10,000 sq. ft.) of M&M Footwear. The one-storey building features a mezzanine occupied by the office common areas (washrooms, kitchen, etc.). The new building's 2 façades are composed of curtain walls and masonry, while the remainder of the building envelope consists of insulated metal panels. The project posed two challenges for Broccolini. First, the team had 5 months to complete the work, and because of the nature of the location chosen, the soil decontamination alone (excavation and backfill) required 5 to 6 weeks. Furthermore, there were hydroelectric poles on the site: Broccolini had to negotiate with Hydro-Quebec and various telecommunications companies to have them moved to allow for the construction of the M&M Footwear building. The work, which started in June, was completed as scheduled in November 2009.
